Responsible Dog Ownership and Walking

All dogs need exercise - the right amount depends on the breed and size. A dog that is properly fed and given a good walk or run every day will keep himself, and you, in good shape. Our suggestions should give you some great new walks to try out and the opportunity to share your favourites with other dog owners. Please be a responsible dog owner and do your bit to keep your dog safe and the environment unspoiled.

1. Run free

Remember, never let your dog out to run loose without your control, especially around wildlife and farm animals. We all know how much dogs love to chase things, so remember not to let him off the lead on farmland so that he doesn’t scare or distress the animals.

2. Never lose your dog

Even if your dog is microchipped, make sure he always wears a collar and identity tag as well. This way, if he should get lost, you have a much better chance of finding him more easily.

3. How unpleasant...

Everyone knows how unpleasant dog mess is, so when exercising your dog in public areas, remember to be considerate and clean up after him. Make sure he doesn’t make a mess on public footpaths or children’s play areas, so that these areas aren’t spoiled for everyone else. And there’s nothing worse than getting caught short, so always remember to carry pick up bags or a scoop with you.
